He was known as "The Best Friend a Song Ever Had" ... It was 12 years ago this month on June 5, 1993 ... that Conway Twitty passed away. Just as some people remember where they were when they heard the news of JFK being shot, I remember the exact moment when I received the call that sad day. Conway Twitty, without a doubt, was America's most successful hit maker of the 20th century, in that he had the most singles (55) reach Number 1. His totals were greater than that of Elvis, Frank Sinatra, the Beatles and Garth Brooks. He twice accomplished something that few singers ever do even once — score a signature song in two genres. Conway opened his concerts with one and closed with the other. The songs were "Hello Darlin'" and "It's Only Make Believe." His road to success began in 1958, thanks to a disc jockey playing the B side of his single. ... The story goes like this ... Conway had all but given up hope on his singing career when news came to him from "Doctor Bop," a DJ in Columbus, Ohio that he was very popular. The single "I'll Try" had failed, but the DJ flipped the single over and began playing "It's Only Make Believe." The song was an instant hit and went to No. 1 on the pop charts. Oddly enough, the song that didn't take long to record and never was thought to have been anything but a filler, went on to sell over 8 million records as well as No. 1 in 21 different countries around the world. Conway would have even more success in country music, as women were drawn to his adult lyrics, his deep, come-to-bed vocals and his trademark throat growl. He had hits in five straight decades.
And ... I bet you didn't know this? ... Every single Conway released from 1968 - 1978 went to No 1.
Conway had lived in Hendersonville, Tennessee, just north of Nashville, where he built a $3 million country music entertainment and tourism complex called "Twitty City." Its lavish displays of Christmas lights were a famous local landmark. He was married three times and after his death the widow, Dee Henry Jenkins, and his four grown children from the previous wives, Michael, Joni, Kathy and Jimmy Jenkins, fell into a very public dispute over the estate. His will had not been updated to account for the third marriage, but Tennessee law reserves one third of any estate to the widow. Ultimately and sadly to his millions of fans, a public auction of the property and memorabilia had to be held due to the inability of the heirs to agree on a division of the assets. Although time has faded his name from the spotlight, true Conway fans still play his songs and remember him as the legend he was. You can read more of his biography here.
Scientists Grow Heart Bypass Blood Vessels in Lab... A new study suggests that a bio-engineering technique of making old cells young again could make it possible to grow made-to-order blood vessels for cardiac bypass surgery patients. Duke University researchers say this is an important step toward making personalized blood vessels for people who need bypass surgery but whose own blood vessels are too fragile to be used in the operation. The cell-growing technique could be put to use in medical practice within a decade. The National Library of Medicine has more about bypass surgery.

... and finally, there's this story...
It's not "Take this Job and Shove it," but it's close ... Kootenai County commissioners in Idaho miscalculated a pay raise to their county attorneys. Letters were sent out stating they could expect about $5,000 more per year - then retracted it the next day. However, public defender Linda Payne upset by the mistake, replied with a hand-delivered greeting card accompanied by a jar of petroleum jelly and a tube of red lipstick. Inside the card she wrote, "The next time you choose to give us something, please lubricate and/or kiss first.
The raise you gave us and cut in half is simply another example of crud you thrust upon the criminal attorneys for the county. To give us a raise and then take it away the next day is yet another example of your disrespect for loyal county employees." Commissioners responded by saying it was just a simple mistake in calculation and gave her a one-week suspension.

A young couple got married and left on their honeymoon. When they got back, the bride immediately called her mother. Her mother asked, "How was the honeymoon?"
"Oh, Mom," she replied, "the honeymoon was wonderful! So romantic..." Suddenly she burst out crying. "But, Mom, as soon as we returned, Sam started using the most horrible language ...things I'd never heard before! I mean, all these awful 4-letter words! You've got to come get me and take me home.... Please Mom!"
"Sarah," her mother said, "calm down! Tell me, what could be so awful? What 4-letter words?"
"Please don't make me tell you, Mom," wept the daughter, "I'm so embarrassed, they're just too awful! Come get me, please!"
"Darling, you must tell me what has you so upset. Tell your mother these horrible 4-letter words!"
Still sobbing, the bride said, "Oh, Mom, they were words like dust, wash, iron, cook!"

What is Spyware?
Spyware is a term used for software that performs certain behaviors such as advertising, collecting personal information, or changing the configuration of your computer, generally without obtaining your consent. Unwanted software will make changes to your computer that can be annoying and can cause your computer to slow down or crash. These programs also make it very difficult for you to change your settings back to the way you originally had them. BUT, that does not mean all software which provides ads or tracks your online activities is bad. For example, you might sign up for a free service, but "pay" for the service by agreeing to receive the targeted ads. If you understand the terms and agree to them, you may have decided that it is a fair tradeoff. The key is whether or not you understand what the software will do and whether you have agreed to install the software on your computer. Whenever you install something on your pc, make sure you carefully read all disclosures, including the license agreement and privacy statement. Sometimes that unwanted software IS documented, but it appears at the very end of the statement.
